I wondered if it was the Calliope Male...there were virtually no markings on the throat, though some of the others had distinct purple feathers...more speckled than the usual Ruby's. I'll upload a pic of it's mate...

Well yes, I suppose so. The poor things must get knackered. After this sugar rush it soon started flapping. I filled the container with Red Bull!

The "flash" only really shows when the male makes it happen. I would stay this was a female that doesnt have the red anyway.

The other pic... the colour is more intense when the sun catches it and they are at a certain angle... that is the nature of iridescence
