Thank you David. Looking at the picture the footpaths do not look so bad, but the way up from the beach to the top of the cliff was a bit of a haul.

Yes we did walk over the top. We started at a small seaside town called Seaford and walked along the cliffs to this place, Cuckmere Haven, where the river cuts through the cliffs but, luckily, we arrived at low tide, so we could wade through to the other side. Apparently it had a reputation for smuggling in the old days. The cliffs you can see are the Seven Sisters, leading eventually to Beachy Head, with a famous lighthouse, and then back down to the town of Eastbourne. It's about 14 miles altogether, but once you get on top of the cliffs it is not too hard, although my knees were rather angry with me for the steep bits to get onto the cliff tops and then getting back down again.
