Most interesting architecture for Great Britain!

Andrew Trundlewagon replied to Stephan Fey:

Hi Stephan, yes indeed. It was built with an "oriental" indian-arabian theme. The interior is decorated with a lot of Chinese and mock-chinese ornamentation. It was a period when Britain was expanding into Asia and there was intense and rather romanticized interest in anything related to the East.

Très élégant, une bonne résidence secondaire entourée de verdure, ça me conviendrait bien ! lol !

The romanticizing really shows on the inside. I found it overwhelming. In a good way. Not to my taste but a worthwhile experience. This a fine photo of the exterior. IIt does look its best from a distance. When I was tgere long ago I was too captivated by the close-up detail.

Andrew Trundlewagon replied to John FitzGerald:

Hi John,
Thanks. Yes, I agree, I found the interior magnificent but overpowering, not a place I could imagine anyone feeling at home in, but I guess that was never the point. Perhaps a modern equivalent would be one of Trump's follies, Mar-a-Largo or Trump Towers maybe?
