CD 230 Hemingray glass insulator in servive use

E Riley St., Bluffton, Indiana

Just a shot of a single CD 230 Hemingray 512 glass insulator along with an older looking GE transformer.

Within the last two years a wire along with a CD 230 Hemingray 512 glass insulator on the left side of the crossarm were taken down from service. This has been the case with a lot of poles in Bluffton with a wire removed from service the last few years.

That style of transformer with the metal "pockets" supporting the bushings is made by GE.

It would seem to me that Bluffton may be in the process of scrapping out its series lighting system and converting the streetlights to operate on 120V or 240V.

It would seem that the series lighting parts are getting more expensive than the multiple system equivalents - that and the loops need to be treated with the same level of caution as the adjacent primary distribution conductors whereas there is a little more leeway when working at secondary voltages.

Interesting info David and thanks for that. Last year I shot one of those series lighting circuit regulator poles that was right next to this pole, but the lighting was bad. When I went to photograph the same pole this time around they did away with all the series lighting hardware and all that was left on the pole was the top crossarm and transformer.
