Umm, Peter. You have trying to figure out what it is now. Walk bridge over a ditch? But then, what's the transversal bar for? keeps livestock from wandering over the bridge?
So not just hidden, but actually puzzling (to me).

The fence is the barbed wire hidden in the vegetation, it's a footbridge over a small brook fed by the overflow from Groby Pool only a few inches deep there is a ford close by, the bridge is a concrete beam plenty of room to walk over but if a cow slipped it would be a big problem to lift it off and it could be hours before it was found

The truth is in there somewhere!
