Sails of the South

The Sails Of The South are located in the central reservation of the M275, the motorway leading to the city of Portsmouth, Hampshire. The sails are 43 metres high and mark the junction with the M27 motorway. The design is meant to symbolise the three directions of the motorway intersection as well as recognising Portsmouth's maritime activities. The sails are normally illuminated at night.

In the foreground are a number of Brent Geese and a few gulls.

Keith Burton replied to Günter Klaus:

Thanks Güni........it was a lovely sunny (but cold) day. That's cold by my standards and not yours!! :-)))

Glad you like the looks of the sails and the birds. It does get lit up at night, but I've never taken a photograph of it. Thanks for your kind and generous comments as always,

Enjoy the rest of your evening.......best wishes, Keith.

The first time I have heard of the sails of the south and the first time I've seen them, I have learned something new.
And a cracking shot too!!

Keith Burton replied to James:

They've been there quite a few years now but you either have to be not motorway or near Hilsea Lido to see them.

Glad you like the shot James..........I wish I'd had a longer lens though, as the birds were quite a distance away.

Thanks for dropping in and commenting as always. I hope you've had a good start to the week.

If you have the imagination you can think of a majestic vessel proceeding along a ship canal
I hadn't heard of it, but it makes an interesting image

Keith Burton replied to Peter Castell:

Yes, they're quite a sight. Initially people were concerned that they would distract motorists, but as far as I know that has not been the case.

Glad you found the photo interesting Peter.........and thanks for stopping by and commenting.
