Island Flyer

A hovercraft arrives in Southsea having travelled from the Ryde on the Isle of Wight............seemingly being led onto the beach landing area by a passing gull.

The hovercraft, which can carry up to 25 passengers, is the fastest way to travel from Southsea to the Isle of Wight (Ryde). Generally a one-way trip only takes 10 minutes or so. It is the world's only year round passenger hovercraft service.

It's a good way to travel, provided the sea is not too rough................

A great shot with the seagull seeing the hovercraft safely in Keith.
Something I love to watch when in Southsea. A great way to travel.
A shame there are not more in service!

Keith Burton replied to Rosalyn Hilborne:

Pure luck Rosa............but glad you like it ;-)

I love to travel in them........and much quicker than a ferry.

There is a really interesting Hovercraft Museum at what used to be called HMS Daedalus in Lee-on-Solent. The do open days as well, which are worth a half day out.
