Something I have always wondered about, why the Welsh names were not used ...
maybe because the pronunciation isn't as self-explanatory as for some place names ?
Much of the Welsh-speaking areas of North Wales have been gradually de-anglicising place names, so this is more of the same.
I worry that insisting on this change is a bit too drastic and will put off some tourists - and a lot of Welsh speakers will be cringing when the proper names are completely mangled. Some thing that is bad enough already - exhibit A ; anywhere with Llan or Llyn in the placename.
