cvd - covid variants to March 2024

The procession of covid-19 variants, as detected by laboratory testing in the UK [latest date on that graph is March 2024]. All but two lines [Alpha & Delta - Blue & green] from after Dec 2021 are all Omicron variants. The mRNA vaccines were - and are - 'tweaked' to offer better protection against these variants and delivered in a booster programme each spring & winter, aimed at the more vulnerable sections of the population.

Just checked [16/11/24], and the take-up of the 2024 winter booster is 53% up to 13th November 2024 , but the rate is higher in the older age-groups. The campaign {availability} started in early October but wasn't heavily publicised and is largely limited to 65 or older.
Personally, I think if someone wants a covid vaccination for their protection for whatever reason, they should be able to get it.
Interestingly, there was a peak in new cases during early October ... but that has tailed off.
