This is Newcastle's Boer War memorial - also known as the South African Wars memorial - in the Haymarket. It dates from 1907 and is grade II* listed [the Metro station is just to the left of this view]
Although the boundary fence is quite nice, the modern bike racks and limited seating rather spoilt the ambiance, not helped by the traffic and modern buildings nearby.
