In Traditional Egyptian religion, the king was intermediary between the people and the gods. The pharaoh protests and expands the borders of Egypt, and in return the gods ensure an eternal life and prosperous reign. What we have here is a much closer relationship between one god, Aten, and the pharaoh, Akhenaten. This is expressed elsewhere in
Akhenaten’s hymn: ‘You are in my heart, there is none other who knows you besides your son. You instruct him in your plans, in your strength.’ ~ Page 336
