Reading

The Mockery of plebeian reading tastes has been a ubiquitous feature of library history. As in James Gillray’s ‘Tales of Wonder! (1802) the object of this mockery was often the reading tastes of women, and their taste for light fiction of the sort few librarians took seriously before the twentieth century
