Nelson

With their long association with Portsmouth, and just the one drivers windscreen, hence the name. 4-COR (CORridor) EMU 3145 departs Fratton. This unit was one of a batch built at Eastleigh in 1938 for express services between London and Portsmouth. One of the most comfortable trains I've ever rode on. The seats were like armchairs. These would have become Class 404, had they lasted.

I never appreciated the range of Southern emus that there were in the 50s & 60s, when I was at schools in Kent & Surrey. In recent times, I always found the SWT 442s very comfortable.
