The huge mountain of scrap at Cashmore's scrap yard on East Dock Road in Newport dwarfs British Railways 3MT 2-6-2 tank 82031 waiting its turn to die. Bundles of boiler tubes are neatly stacked but the cylinders & steam chests from unknown engines litter the pile behind. This was my only visit to Cashmores and all the steam had gone by year's end.
A twist in the tale is that, although all of this class of locomotive were scrapped, today a group of enthusiasts are actually building a replica of a Class 3MT tank from scratch. 82045 is progressing well - see

In Jamestown California there is a Locomotive Geriatric Center located at the Railtown 1897 State Historic Park. It is not as immense as the National Railway Museum in York, UK, but is worthy of a visit (and ride on a steam locomotive).
