HWW Aylestone Meadows Leicester 23rd August 2025

King's Lock in Aylestone on the Leicester branch of the Grand Union canal. The River Soar had been made navigable up to Loughborough by 1780, and the route was extended to Leicester in 1794. The canal through Aylestone to Market Harborough was opened in 1805.

Today only leisure craft use this waterway and the lock-keeper's house is a tea room..

HWW to everybody. Enjoy your day.
