HWW Nazaré Portugal 14th June 2014

This fantastic blue & white Azulejo ceramic tile scene on the platform side wall of Nazaré station dates from 1929 & shows Nazaré's beautiful bathing beach and the Praia district.

Note that it is called Nazareth on the scene. Legend has it that the town derives its name from a small wooden statue of the Virgin Mary brought from Nazareth in the Holy Land to Spain, and then to Portugal in 711 by a monk, Romano, accompanied by Roderic, the last Visigoth king.

HWW to everyone. Enjoy the day.
