Margrethe Holm København Copenhagen Denmark May 1945

80 years ago on May 8th 1945 at the end of the Second World War in Europe my father was with the RAF Regiment in Kiel Germany and a few days later moved on to Copenhagen where this photo was taken.

Here my father is standing second from left with Les Brooks to the right of him billeted in the Naval Academy with 2827 Rifle Squadron. The main squadron base was at Vaerlose airfield northwest of the city but a small section of airmen were allocated to this location which was also a flying boat base. The LuftMarine was still in occupation in May-June 1945 and he and his fellow airmen were the only Allied military personnel on site until the Germans were repatriated.
