Great Central Railway Loughborough Leicestershire June 2023

After a long day starting at 05.45 we were finally back at Loughborough with LMS Stanier 8F 2-8-0 48305 and I had gone under to uncouple us from the dining train stock at the north end of the station.

Another great day at the GCR - maybe a bit hot though...

This composition offered itself as I turned round to put the lamp on the middle bracket.

A very interesting photo for those who, like me, love old steam locomotives!
On Italian railways there were two front lamps and they were located on the sides.
All the best

Thanks Fabio.
In the UK express trains carry two front lamps in the same way. One lamp in the middle is for an engine running on its own without any coaches.
Best Regards,

Loose_Grip/Pete replied to Peter Castell:

Thanks Peter. It was a dry sunny day so kept pretty clean - unlike the fireman who ended the day very smutty!!

Loose_Grip/Pete replied to Tractacus:

It was based in the Midlands in BR days so will have visited Toton many times but according to www.brdatabase.info it wasn't shedded there. It was withdrawn from Speke Junction in 1968.
