HWW Midland Railway Glenfield Leicestershire 10th September 2023

Another shot of the fabulously textured Glenfield railway tunnel wall.

Opened in 1832 by Robert Stephenson for the Leicester & Swannington Railway to bring coal & granite into Leicester. At that time it was the longest rail tunnel in the world at 1796 yards! It was taken over by the Midland Railway in 1846 & closed to passengers in 1928 & goods traffic by BR through to Leicester West Bridge in 1966.

HWW to everyone.

A texture formed by almost 200 years of smoke, humidity and charcoal. Kind regards, Anton.
