Halifax West Yorkshire 23rd May 2021
Contrasting 19th & 20th century bridge architecture spanning the Hebble Valley.
The Victorian cast & wrought-iron North Bridge was completed in 1871 and as well as the river Hebble it crossed the once extensive railway yards. In fact Halifax Corporation & the Halifax & Ovenden Railway jointly financed its construction.
Burdock Way, the modern flyover system, was opened in 1973 to take the A58 and A629 traffic over the valley leaving North Bridge in use for local traffic only.
The steps lead down to Dean Clough mill.
