Clipstone
Sunk in 1922 by the Bolsover Colliery Company, Clipstone was modernised and deepened to 920m in the 1950s. Closed by British Coal in 1993 it was reopened by RJB Mining in 1994 with a licence to work the Yard Seam only. It finally closed in April 2003 after the reserves in the Yard Seam had been exhausted. The headstocks, which are listed Grade II, are the highest in Europe and the third highest in the world. New ownership has resulted in the site becoming used for concerts in the winding enginehouse and a general tidying up of the much robbed and vandalised buildings.
