A 1998 patinated bronze sculpture of a Galapagos Tortoise by Eric Berg.

This photo was taken by a Hasselblad 500C medium format film camera and Carl Zeiss Distagon 1:4 f=50mm T* lens with a Hasselblad/63 1xHz-0 drop in filter using Kodak Portra 800 film, the negative scanned by an Epson Perfection V600 and digitalized with Photoshop.

Galapagos tortoises are theorized to have floated over 600 miles on vegetation rafts from the South American mainland some 2 - 3 million years ago and spread throughout the volcanic islands. Sailors plundered these creatures centuries ago as food for their ships, decimating many tortoise populations into extinction.
