The motor-less cable cars were established in the 1870s, transported up and down the steep hills of San Francisco by a centralized cable pulley system. Originally run by numerous private operators, the entire system is now part of the city-owned San Francisco Municipal Railway.
Visitors and locals alike love the unique cable cars.
