Cardinal Moment

A worthy symbol, the redwood.
It is resilient, strong and long-lived.

This photo was taken by a Kowa Super 66 medium format film camera with a Kowa 1:3.5/55mm lens and Kowa L39•3C(UV) ø67 filter using Kodak Portra 400 film, the negative scanned by an Epson Perfection V600 and digitally rendered with Photoshop.

Stanford's athletic teams are called the Cardinal, a reference to the university's signature shade of red, not the bird. The color "Cardinal" became the official school color in 1893. While Stanford has used the "Indian" nickname in the past, it was later changed due to its controversial nature. The Tree, a redwood, is the unofficial mascot, not the official team name.
