Panamint Valley at Dusk

Once a lake in wetter times, the Panamint Valley is now a dry wasteland where summer temperatures can approach 50ºC. As barren as it is, there is a desolate beauty here, particularly at that magic hour of dusk.

This image was shot from a Kiev 60 medium format film camera with a МИР - 26В 3.5/45mm lens and a Hoya HMC O[G] 82mm filter using Ilford Delta 100 film, the negative scanned by an Epson Perfection V600 and digitalized with Photoshop.

I was not expecting such “living” landscapes in a place called Death Valley !!

Scott Holcomb replied to Marta Wojtkowska:

Somehow, I managed to shoot two rolls (in two different cameras) as the light faded into dusk. It is rare to have such striking landscapes with such ideal light conditions.
