Creatures sketchbook

Mixed media, mostly from gelatin monoprints. From an on-line workshop by Carla Sonheim, last year. Not really satisfied, but what the hell. I have a lot more monoprints to work on really beastly political creatures, not on cute ones. The above is unfinished, but I don't know if I will complete the pages any time.

Gelatin monoprints? I don't know what those are. What are they? You've done a really nice job with them. It seems to give your creatures a lot of character and depth. Thanks for sharing the whole book. Such a treat.

I bet once you have got some distance from it you will come back to it feeling better about it. Us artists always struggle with our vision for something and or finished product.

Risa Profana replied to raingirl:

Hello raingirl. Gelatin monoprints are prints made on a gelatin plate. I make one myself but today there is a commercial one available. It is more or less like prints made on a glass plate, since every one different they are called Monotypes. What makes the technique different form a glass print is that the gelatin is more flexible and holds more humidity which allows for more details and a different effect and quality. If you look at my album monoprints, you see more of them, mostly done in black. Here is the plate:

You may be right in the feeling with distance. It maybe that at the moment I am in a mood that is not so satisfied with cute creatures ;-)
