Gardening became more and more important for Monet found and, in 1893 - ten years after his arrival in Givenchy - he bought a piece of land neighbouring his property. There he expanded his
garden to include a water-lily pond, where he also built a Japanese-style bridge.
The water lily pond, the little bridge, the reflection of the sky in the pond and the many water lilies feature frequently in his paintings.
