Several plants of Caraway were growing near the edge of the path at Griffith Woods when we were on a walk on June 20th.

This species belongs to the Apiaceae or Umbelliferae (both names are allowed by the ICBN) family, which include Carrots, Hemlock, Parsley and Parsnip, etc.. It is a large family with about 300 genera and more than 3,000 species and has many uses. Here, Caraway is an introduced, invasive weed that is native to western Asia, Europe and Northern Africa. It does have very beautiful, tiny flowers, as can be seen in this macro shot.
