Pileated Woodpecker / Dryocopus pileatus
A second photo of this beautiful female Pileated Woodpecker that we were lucky enough to see on November 27th, between Votier's Flats and Bebo Grove, Fish Creek Park. This huge woodpecker (41-48 cm in length) is uncommon to common in Alberta year-round. The female has no red moustache and the red crest starts on the crown. With the male, there is a red moustache and the red crest extends from the forehead.
