Musk Thistle
The Musk Thistle/Nodding Thistle is a large species of thistle, belonging to the Aster family. This plant was introduced from Europe and North Africa. I don't see this wildflower growing in many places. For some strange reason, I have not yet been able to get a sharp photo of it. Maybe this summer?
"Carduus" is the ancient Latin name for thistles, and the species name "nutans" means "nodding".
