Upside down
This female Mallard was doing what these ducks do - they "tip up and dabble in the shallows for the seeds of sedges, willows and pondweeds and also eat aquatic invertebrates, larval amphibians and fish eggs" (from "Birds of Alberta" by Fisher and Acorn.
