Silvery Gibbon

In the Mogo Wildlife Park. These live in undisturbed rainforests on the Indonesian island of Java, however those are diminishing. Consequently, these have been listed as "endangered" since 2008 with fewer than 2500 adults now believed to be in the wild. (Info from Wikipedia) They are being bred in captivity here.
I shall now be away for about a week, best wishes everyone.

I deeply regret the harm caused to primates, even these considered 'lesser' in theory. Knowing how intelligent and socially complex they are makes it all the more heartbreaking to see them confined in zoos — though at least there, they are safe from poaching. The fact that adult gibbons are often killed so their young can be sold as pets is not only absurd, but a stark reminder of how barbaric our actions can still be, despite living in an age of instant access to information and global connectivity.
