Thanks to
aNNa schramm for identifying this small tree as
Brachychiton acerifolius, more commonly known here as an Illawarra Flame Tree and native to the coastal areas north of where I live. I confess I had no idea on ID. It is growing in my neighbour's property and, though not shown, there is a carpet of fallen flowers. See also the PiPs.

I saw it for the first time and became curious. The flowers are beautiful little red bells.
It is also available with yellow flowers!...
