It's built!

The new Batemans Bay bridge is finally ready for use. I took this image just after crossing on the old bridge, which closed next day. The associated foreshore works will take some time yet to finish, as will dismantling the old bridge. View large.

HFF, stay safe and best wishes for the weekend, everyone.

WONDERFUL!! Large, the details are fun to stare at. This must have been great to watch as the project advanced in time. It takes so very LONG for something like this to be built, doesn't it? When we had the Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989 when I still lived at home in San Francisco, part of the Bay Bridge collapsed onto the deck below (it's the busiest of the bay area's bridges into SF) and repairs took AGES...the resulting traffic nightmare was just incredible and lasted the entire time. It's nice that the old bridge here was fully functional while the new one was being built. These arteries are so important! Congratulations!! (refamiliarizing myself with that 1989 fiasco, they did an initial repair that was finished in 5-6 weeks but eventually replaced the entire bridge because it was no longer structurally sound)
