Auckland Islands

The World Heritage listed Auckland Islands archipelago lies about 500km south of New Zealand. It is over 600sq km and is uninhabited apart from a few visiting scientists (and very occasional tourists). This was taken as we entered Port Ross, with rain showers in the distance. Earlier, as we passed Carnley Harbour further south, I took the image in the note.

Guess it was pretty cold down there. Beautiful image of such a remote area.

I love stuff like this. So far from the hustle and bustle. The sea looks surprisingly calm for so far "down"...I mean that's way under "down under"... The light is fabulous. A great nature/landscape shot, George.

tiabunna replied to Phill G:

Thanks, Phill. The reason it looks so calm is that we were entering Port Ross, one of several enclosed harbours on the more sheltered (eastern) side of the island.
