Symbols
Before the Euro era the reverse side of the Finnish penni had a hannunvaakuna (looped square). The ancient meaning of the symbol was protection from evil spirits and bad luck.
The smallest modern Finnish Euro cents have the lion from the Finnish coat of arms surrounded by the circle of stars symbolizing the European Union.
