The Amazing Tomotillo

Isn't this the coolest looking thing?! I am crazy about this fruit* because of their interesting crepe-like husk, and now we have three of them to try cooking with, YAYYY!!! I took this picture in the grocery store while Steve and I gathered ingredients used in the chili that Steve took product shots for today! :)

The tomatillo (Physalis philadelphica) is a plant of the nightshade family, related to the cape gooseberry, bearing small, spherical and green or green-purple fruit of the same name. Tomatillos originated in Mexico, and are a staple of that country's cuisine. Tomatillos are grown as annuals throughout the Western Hemisphere. Wikipedia: Tomatillo

*By the way, did you know that tomatoes are fruit, not vegetables?!
