I found this charred log that was part of a burn site and loved the chip-like and glossy appearance of the burned bark.
Did you know that forest services conduct monitored burn piles most years all over the world? This is done to reduce the fire fuel if a fire were to start from a lightning strike or another reason. Clearing out dead branches and trees, removing brush and trees growing too closely together also helps our forest's health and vigor.
