Airmail Arrow

Relic of a 1920s aircraft navigation system. This one is to the west of Reno, Nevada. We're looking west here; the skyline is Boca Ridge in California. There's more information in the album write-up: www.ipernity.com/doc/289859/album/1319472?with=51251510

You've got me intrigued with this set of the broken concrete in arrow form on the hill, Steve.

Hi George!
I've been meaning to put the info in the captions, with some inserts, but alas for good intentions-- I do have a write-up in the album description, though!

I wrote this arrow up for Atlas Obscura using these photos and that write-up:

Thanks for those links, Steve. Fascinating historical information. We didn't have anything similar to the arrows here that I'm aware of, though there were rotating beacons at some airports.
