Mr. Toad's Wild Ride

by slgwv
Aka the Saxon Creek Trail. This is one of the most (in)famous extreme mountain bike trails in the area. It's in the Lake Tahoe basin, running from the Tahoe Rim Trail down to South Lake Tahoe. The inset is another sign, which exhorts those attempting the trail to "ride, don't slide!" (The idea is to keep the erosion down.) Yes, it's considerably above my mountain bike skill level!

Not a fan of the kind of "sport" that does so much damage :(

I was kind of surprised by the sign because mountain biking ranks pretty low on the scale of destructive activities. Motorized sports cause a lot more damage! I suspect it's because (a) erosion is a Big Deal in the Tahoe basin, due to concerns about water clarity; and (b) the trail is so famous it tempts a lot of people above their skill level!

I have seen bikers _ride_ down things I have difficulty walking!
