Sierra Buttes

Seen looking south from the Pacific Crest Trail. Sierra Nevada, California. The fire lookout at the summit (8591 ft/2619 m) makes the tiny rectangular silhouette. The twisted tree at the right shows the effect of being weighted down as a sapling by heavy snowfall.

Amazing that snow could do that to a young tree.

It's very common in the high country here. I've got lots of other examples in my collection.

Thanks, Ron! With our El NiƱo winter this year, this part of the PCT is (judging by the totals reported at our local ski resort) 20 ft deep in snow! So, barring snowshoes, it'll be a while before we're able to hike in the high country again--
