Deer Lake

by slgwv
Another generic name-- North of the Sierra Buttes, California, looking east from the Pacific Crest Trail. The two trees on the left show the effect of having been bent over as saplings by heavy snow.

The Bendies....

I have young oaks here with the same bends(not quite so bad) from Ice storm malformations.

We've seen trees like that often. Didn't know why until we were on an interpretive trail and a sign explained that the weight of the snow did this to young trees.

You see the phenomenon a lot in the Sierras--I'd imagine anyplace with a heavy winter snowpack that melts away completely in the summer.
