It's a neat area and still not too well known. I have a big album on it which I'm in the process of updating.

Look forward to it! The difference here is probably that this road is ascending a long slope that ends abruptly at a mountain front with several thousand feet of relief! Here's a view along the range front, where the slope ends:

I've tried Steen Mountain twice, once in early July, once in late July, and the road has been blocked by snow both times. Will get there one of these days, I love just wandering around that part of Oregon.

It's definitely worth going back for! It's usually clear by July--first time we were there was over the 4th, 1994, and the loop road was completely open--so you must've hit some good snow years. I saw on a website recently, though, that there's (re)construction on the south loop and it won't reopen till Labor Day or so.

Thanks! But it's a long mountain slope heading up to an abrupt scarp!
