Yucca

Per Wikipedia, In the same family as asparagus(!). Beyond is the Arrow Canyon Range, with prominent Early Paleozoic strata. The prominent dark band is the Ely Springs Dolomite; the thinner, light-colored, locally rusty band beneath is the Eureka Quartzite. They are both Ordovician in age. Clark County, Nevada, USA.
