Mirage on the Playa

Alvord Desert, Oregon. This scene is not, perhaps, most people's image of Oregon ;)

"Playa" is literally "beach" in Spanish, but in the deserts of North America it's also used for a dry lake bed. Unlike "canyon" (cañón), it apparently hasn't yet made the transition from a southwest US regionalism of Spanish origin to international English.

I was about to ask that. I love the breaking up of the image toward along the center horizontal line -- you have captured a mirage perfectly.
