Anna Kratz by Krziwanek
Anna Kratz (1837-1918); German soprano.
As a child of nine years old she already performed on stage in Bonn. In 1850 she began a career as operetta singer in the Netherlands (Amsterdam and Rotterdam). In 1851 she changed her career by also singing opera roles. She sang roles both in the coloratura and soubrette repertoire, first in Switzerland (Bern and Basel) and then in Germany (Hamburg). Since 1857 she was engaged at Riga, Berlin (Friedrich-Wilhelmstädtisches Theater) and Vienna (Wiener Carl-Theater). Here she had a sensational success as Minette in Offenbach's "Die verwandelte Katze" ("La chatte métamorphosée en femme"). In 1861 she gave up her singing career and for the following 56 (!) years she was engaged by the Wiener Burg where she had a great career as an actress. She was married to the impresario Eduard Drathschmidt von Bruckheim.
