Rudolf Walin by Lundbergh
Rudolf Walin (1820-1868); Swedish baritone.
His father was organist in Leksand and he gave his son his first musical training. After a short study at Uppsala University, he made his debut in 1844 at the Royal Opera Stockholm in Bellini's "La Sonnambula". Walin remained at the Royal Opera during almost his entire professional career, even after he had lost his (singing) voice in 1863. During the years 1847/48 he was at Paris for vocal training with Manuel Garcia. His most memorable roles were the title-role in "Don Giovanni" and Count Almaviva in "Le nozze di Figaro". Rudolf Walin was, like his sister the soprano Gustafva Amalia Walin (1825-1896), member of the Royal Academy of Music.
