"Monrose" by Constantin
"Monrose", born Eugénie Chollet (1817-1893); French soprano. "Monrose" was the stagename of Madame Barizain-Chollet. She was married to the actor Eugène Barizain, who used the stage name of “Monrose”. She continued her career under that same name. She was the daughter of the tenor Jean-Baptiste Chollet (1798-1892) and a pupil of the famous tenor Louis-Gilbert Duprez. In 1859 she made her debut at the Opéra-Comique in “Le songe d’une nuit d’été” by Ambroise Thomas. As a member of the Opéra-Comique she created the role of La Marquise de Villa Bianca in “Le roman d’Elvire” by Thomas (1860) and Olga in Auber's "La Circassienne" (1861). In 1862 she created at Baden-Baden the role of Héro in Berlioz's "Béatrice et Bénédict".
