Japanmuseum SieboldHuis 2024 – The Shogun’s reply to the letter from King Willem II

Willem warned the Shogun against the British Navy and advised that the Shogun opened his ports to trade. The Shogun took a year to reply. He thanked the king for his advice, but he told that he should refrain from sending more letters, because the Netherlands and Japan only had trade relations, no diplomatic relations. The letter is from 1845.
