Assisi 2024 – Cattedrale di San Rufino – Crypt

The crypt is a remnant of the old Basilica Ugoniana, Assisi’s cathedral from 1035. That basilica replaced the Parva Basilica, that stood from Longobard times. The Ionic capitals date from 125–50 BC, probably they were part of the Cupra / Bona Mater pagan sanctuary.
